All work, no play makes Jack a guldu

Namaskara!
First, don't ask me the meaning of 'guldu' :P I don't know what it means yet I use it ( Like my VTU exams only, writing about something that I have no clue :D)
From the past one week, I have been waiting for this show. No, it's not Sherlock's season 4 nor is it TBBT season 8. It is the greatest show to be ever made in India- Satyameva Jayate ! Maa Kasam, what a show it is !
Sports movies like Mary Kom, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Chak De India tell us the story of how someone with a stubborn passion towards a sport overcomes all obstacles. These movies are not sports movies, they are stories of struggle. Interestingly, the Mogambo in all these movies is the System.
That bloody system which we hate !!
But just think once boss ! What is this system? Yes it is those spineless politicians and the gutless bureaucracy ! True ! But don't forget, you are a part of that system. The ones who are stubbornly passionate about a sport and absolutely great at it will find some angelic guide and move forward. Or this sport destroys the life. In both the cases, there will be either unconditional support or unequivocal opposition. As they say, with struggle comes strength, the story will involve rising against all odds or either giving up and being dejected or becoming a cynic. Too many people have already talked a lot about these.
What i want to talk is about those who want to play for fun ! What about them? Why the hell do schools give no importance to people like us? I thought I was a guy who was exposed to quite a few things in school. But only after passing out did I realize that I had been a bloody frog in the well. I realized that when compared to others, my school had next to zero extra curricular and sports activities. There were limited options for sports in school and only the best 10 got into the team. The remaining were either too timid to play, fearing public embarrassment and even if they did go and play, they were made fun of! High School is indeed a pretty tough time for the non cool guys.
Just take my story, I never had a great talent in sports like cricket. So I used to be the guy who stood behind the keeper or the one who gets to bat the last. I actually didn't even know that there was anything other than cricket !
That's the thing here. You see unlike academics, in sports, you have to be good at it to continue playing. People make you study for hours together just so that you pass. You also try to pass by hook or crook. There is a need of compulsion created for studying. You are made to study even if you don't like it. And in the course of this "Studying", if one ends up finding his/her interest and continues to pursue that. If not, nothing lost, there's a degree gained. Why is it not like this with sports ?? Why should one be either extremely interested or unbelievably talented to continue playing? Why is it that in a school having tens of teachers, there is only one sports teacher? Why cant sports be a part of the curriculum not only till middle school but till the end of our education. Why can't it be like I play sports or games?? Why can't we say goodbye to cricket at the end of our fourth sem like we did to maths?? Why cant we learn all the sports till tenth standard and choose something like PCMSF - Physics, Chemistry,Maths, Skating and Football. Why??
I see absolutely no drawbacks in this approach! You could save your money going to camps or gyms! You'll be taught at school/college only. The country will become healthier- no obesity problems. You needn't be awkward when people discuss about sports ! Everyone will no the basics atleast. You can home tutor your kids in sports just like how you tutor them in their studies. The best part is you know what? Things like sports and music break the barriers. Everyone appreciates a beautiful voice or an impressive player regardless of the class/creed/gender/religion/ colour etc !

Best is , you can make better career choices !
Whats the use of being stuck in the wrong job !

  1. I am sure most students of your age think so, I did too. Sports is usually an extra curricular activity, meaning something outside academics. India's education system seems to be designed such that studies is given the first priority. If you want to do something else, like pursuing music or games, you need to spend additional personal time for it.

It is also worth noting that Govt. has not entirely given up on sports. There are sports quota reservations for most bachelor degrees, but not vice versa. And there are PT classes in all schools that are mandatory so that every kid gets introduced to the basics of physical education and training. Of course, pursuing it needs much more dedication compared to academia.
